THE ONLY GUIDE YOU’LL EVER NEED TO DECIDE YOUR PERFECT BLOG NICHE.
Finding the perfect idea for a profitable blog niche
This is, without a doubt, the most crucial move for your blog.
The topic (or niche) of your blog decides the rest of the website’s future. This is what you will be learning about and, hopefully, profiting from.
The good news is that there is a ready audience for almost any topic you may be interested in.
However, some topics appear to perform better than others. You must choose a subject that appeals to a large audience while still appealing to you.
You’ll need to answer two questions to find the ideal blog niche:
1. What am I passionate about?
What is your favourite subject? What is it that you are obsessed on?
This is where your blog’s niche begins. After all, if you don’t enjoy the subject, you won’t want to write about it every day.
I recommend looking into the following areas to help address this question:
Natural Talent: Do you have a natural talent for something? A sport, a game, or a musical instrument, for example.
Expertise in any area: What abilities and expertise have you acquired over time? If there is something you studied in school or college that you can now write about. Consider academic subjects or skills such as coding and book summary writing.
Making a living: Your present job can be an excellent topic for writing. If you’re a psychology teacher, for example, you might start blogging about mind hack, human behavior, etc.
Hobbies and passions: What are the two words that come to mind when thinking about hobbies and passions? Is there anything you’d like to hear more about? Consider what you want to do in your spare time. It could be reading books, exploring home decoration ideas, or fixing the old car in your garage. This is a perfect list of blog subjects to write about.
FINAL STEP: Make a list of 10–15 topics that concern you. Make a Word document or a piece of paper and write this down. It will assist you in staying focused on your ideas. You may also refer to it later when making your final decision.
2. What are the interests of others?
Now you might be thinking about how the heck I would know what others are interested in? It might be a trickier task but it’s easy.
It’s important to discover what other people are interested in. Otherwise, you could end up with a blog that doesn’t attract many readers or visitors.
For example, you might think that a blog about how fascinating your dog is! — but is it likely to attract many readers?
A blog on how to care for and train dogs, on the other hand, appeals to a much larger group of readers.
You must take a personal interest and transform it into a universal one. Consider how you first became interested in the topic. How did you come to know so much about the subject?
Consider how many doubts and misunderstandings you had when you first started out and what helped you gain experience.
Best Niche for Blogging
To assist you, here are a few common blog niche or categories that consistently perform well:
Personal finance
Fitness
Make money online
Investing
Cooking Recipies
Productivity
Real estate
Jobs and Careers
Test Exam prep
Freelancing
Digital Marketing
Product Reviews
Recommendation: To find out how often people search for a particular category or niche, use Google’s Keyword Planner app. It will show what people are interested in and what they are not interested in.
FINAL STEP: Review your to-do list from earlier. Do any of them fit into one of these groups? It’s fine if you don’t! One of your subjects is likely to have a receptive audience.
For the time being, I’d like you to choose a subject from your list that you’d like to turn into a blog. After you’ve done that, you’ll narrow it down and make it even more precise.
You might want to start a personal finance website, for example. Niching it down could mean creating a personal finance platform for middle class income group audience. For those in their fourties who want to retire early.
Validating the Narrowed list of Blog Niches
1. Google Trends
Using the free Google Trends tool is the simplest way to get started. This allows you to easily see two main data points:
- Whether or not people are looking for your niche.
- Whether the niche is having increasing or decreasing interest over time.
It’s not the most authentic data, but it’s a good place to start and verify the trends.
All you have to do is follow these steps:
- Consider your niche’s key term(s)
- Go to Google Trends
- Fill in your keywords
The Google Trends graph shows the interest over time. You can see the interest in the keyword “digital marketing” has been growing and shows an upward trend which clearly indicates that this can be a great niche if you have passion and knowledge on it.
2. Google Keyword Planner
After looking at Google Trends, you now have a rough understanding of the popularity and traction of your niche.
However, since Google Trends uses relative numbers (remember, the keyword is “trends”), it isn’t the most accurate estimate of absolute numbers. That is, it does not tell you how many people are looking for words related to your niche at any given time.
As a result, you’ll need to dig a little deeper into keyword analysis.
In a nutshell, keyword research will tell you how many people search for terms (or “keywords”) in your niche each month.
As a result, here’s what you’ll need to do:
To begin, make a list of sub keywords that are important to your blog niche. If we stick with “digital marketing” as an example, some good sub keywords to start are:
digital marketing
online marketing
digital ads
online advertisement
social media marketing and so on.
Go to Google Keyword Planner, select language as English, Location as Worldwide and Paste all the Keywords.
Add more keywords to the list and search. Now Google will display all related keywords along with their monthly search volume and competition index.
Our goal is to find keywords having low competition index value and also having a minimum of 500+ monthly searches. If you get more than 10+ keywords falling under our criteria then the niche is good to go.
Make sure the Blog Niche is profitable
If you want to make money from your blog, you should make sure that your niche is profitable enough to enable you to monetize it and earn good money.
Checking if any brands or businesses are advertising for your keywords is a simple way to test this. You’ve chosen the right niche if people are spending money on AdWords to advertise products using unique keywords relevant to your niche.
