When I look for a hosting provider, I look for overall WordPress performance because I typically have anywhere from 6-7 different WordPress sites running at the same time, some on a multisite instal, some commerce, some just landing pages, some just basic blogs, 1–2 as social networks, some heavy content, some light content.

I’ve also used Hostinger, GoDaddy, BlueHost, SiteGround, HostGator, and a few more popular dedicated and non-dedicated providers.

The best hosting I’ve discovered has been using Google Cloud Engine and a Bitnami WordPress instal on my own. In terms of pricing, performance, and the ability to scale as needed, it provides the most flexibility. AWS is also popular, however, their WordPress documentation is terrible and not organised.

Siteground and Bluehost rank second and third, respectively, in terms of performance, security, reliability, and other features like SSL and customer support, compared to the other services I’ve used.

I would not recommend any of the cheapest shared hosting plans provided unless you are just getting started. You’ll rapidly become frustrated with the experience and lag times you’ll encounter, whether it’s during the creation process or on the front end.
