If you’re new to website development, deciding between Wix and WordPress is a difficult issue. Both platforms are fantastic, but there are some key distinctions between them.

Wix vs. WordPress: What’s the Difference?

  • WordPress is a self-hosted open-source content management system that runs on standalone software. This necessitates the use of a web server.
    • Wix is an all-in-one website builder that handles everything from hosting to technical heavy lifting.
  • Wix isn’t as powerful as WordPress.
    • WordPress enables us to develop much larger websites, but it necessitates a higher level of technical expertise.
  • Although Wix is simpler to use than WordPress, it is not suitable for large-scale projects. Wix is a poor choice. With too many pages, it becomes slow.
  • All WordPress theme designs are SEO-friendly, and SEO plugins (Yoast SEO, Rank Math, and All in One SEO Pack) are available to assist you with search engine optimization.
    • Wix designs aren’t all SEO-friendly.
  • There are thousands of free and commercial themes and plugins available on the internet, far more than there are on Wix.
    • An eCommerce plugin cannot create an online store on WordPress without being installed.
  • All Wix eCommerce plans include built-in sales capabilities.
  • There is no specialised support for WordPress; instead, there are online manuals and a forum.
    • Wix has a dedicated support team available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
  • WordPress offers a wide range of customization possibilities, allowing you to add new features and functions on your own.
    • Wix has a restricted number of customising possibilities. It is not possible to add new features and functionality in the same way that WordPress allows. Wix must authorise everything in advance.
  • WordPress makes exporting content to another platform a breeze. It has a one-click exporter that allows you to download content in XML format.
    • Wix provides limited features and makes moving your content to another platform tough.

But here’s my final thought:

If you want a strong and adaptable solution, WordPress is the way to go. WordPress is only one of several tools available for building multilingual sites, LMSs, blogs, directories, sophisticated databases, and FTP access.

Wix, on the other hand, is perfect for tiny or informative website owners who don’t have a lot of technical experience with website creation.
